Lorenzo was riding “at the limit” until Pedrosa crash

The race winner at Laguna Seca admitted he was pushing himself and his Fiat Yamaha M1 to the maximum in his early battle with his fellow Spaniard.
Jorge Lorenzo’s lead at the top of the World Championship standings is now a sizeable 72 points after his sixth victory of the season, which came at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Fiat Yamaha rider, who started from pole position, was chasing down Dani Pedrosa at the head of the race when his rival crashed on lap 11, leaving Lorenzo to guide his factory machine home for another win as he maintained his phenomenal form of having finished every race of the season so far inside the top two.
“I rode very well today, at the limit. I started well with the clutch but a lot of riders overtook me on the outside by the first corner, so I had to take a lot of risks to overtake Spies. Then Stoner made a mistake in a corner and I overtook him… I didn’t make my best start of the season!” said Lorenzo.
“Dani was impressive and was pushing so much at the limit as well, and I knew it was possible for him to crash,” continued the 23 year-old. “That happened and then it was quite easy to finish the race.”
Despite his very healthy advantage in the overall standings at the halfway point of the season Lorenzo has no room for complacency, and he indicated that the title is far from decided.
“We have a big lead in the Championship, it’s easier than before this race, but this is not the first time a rider has had such a big gap in the Championship,” he stated.
Lorenzo now intends to recuperate after a busy schedule before heading to a track he has tasted success on in the 250cc and 125cc classes before, Brno.
“First I will take a holiday and relax a bit because we have had a lot of races in a row, so it’s time to relax. Then we will start to think about Brno, a track I love,” he added, looking ahead to Round 10 in three weeks.
